I was an early bloomer and started my period when I was still attending Primary School at the age of 10. Unfortunately that was to be the beginning of my Gynecological problems as I had started to suffer from very heavy and painful periods however as I got older I grew accustomed to things and found a way to manage. Fast forward to adult hood and now with a steady relationship where we had an active sex life I noticed problems again as intercourse had become painful. Again I was referred back to the Gynecologist had ultrasound scans of uterus ovaries etc but wasn't really told much ans as it wasn't really causing any significant problems with my daily life I chose to just get on with things. However after getting married to the same partner as mentioned earlier and deciding to try for a baby I was worried that there may be problems so for the third time I was referred back to the Gynecological unit however before the appointment I fell pregnant with the help of the fertility drug Clomid that was given to me by a friend who had been prescribed the medication due to the condition PCOS and had been successful. I know taking medication that wasn't prescribed to me is dangerous but at the time I was desperate and had been trying a few months to get pregnant without success. However that pregnancy was not meant to be and unfortunately at 17+2 weeks my waters broke then at 18 weeks due to an infection I had to have a medical manged termination as I had become seriously ill.
Fast forward to present time and since the termination we have been trying for 3 years without any luck getting pregnant however due to my weight and being in my early 20's I had been reluctant to seek professional help for my fertility but due to my husbands age I finally felt I had no choice but to seek professional advice. I must say that my worries were unfounded and I was treated with respect regardless of my weight and my age and was referred for an ultrasound scan which showed that I suffer from the condition PCOS albeit me having a regular 31 day cycle. My GP has also ordered blood tests to check my fertility which will be taken on Cycle day 1 and 24 also she has requested a semen analysis for my husband and when she has all the results back she will be referring me to the fertility specialists. She has informed me that the specialists have strict criteria when offering fertility treatments and she recommend I begin to lose some weight before the referral to help with the PCOS and to help the weight loss she has prescribed Metformin which I am to take once a day and she also has recommended a low GI diet.
Today I wear a size 22 clothes and weigh approximately 280lbs (20 stone) Now I have always struggled with my weight and from an early age my mother was told that I had rather large bones therefore I would never be a skinny child however in my teens and due to taking up athletics and netball I managed to lose a lot of weight so I know weight loss can be achieved but I am aware of the small time frame I have to achieve a substantial amount of weight loss so I have made the drastic decision to do a 60 day water fast now I know water fasting isn't for everyone and people may think this a ridiculous way to lose weight but for me I feel it is the right choice. I have done extensive research and now feel O am ready to commence the fast and I feel the goal of fertility treatment at the end of all this is what I needed to give me the encouragement I needed to take my weight loss seriously.
NB This journal is not meant for medical advice and anyone struggling from infertility or weight issues should consult their doctor as this blog is for my own reference and is a means to journal my journey of weight loss via water fasting and my struggle to become a mother.
